It's time for an update to how we handle time! Now that we are a couple days into the first season of this year, I'll explain how our flow of time will now work. We will be keeping double time, but our time will be more fluid. Essentially, from here on, you will be allowed to back date threads.

All threads from here on out will need to have a date AND time listed in the thread title. This will allow users to see exactly when a thread occurred.

Previously, if you posted a new thread, the time and date that thread was posted was the time in which that event was happening. We are altering the rules regarding timelines to allow you to backdate threads for any date in the current year. (This is Year 3.) So this year started on 8.29.19. You may date a thread from the current date backward to the first day of the year. So as today is 8/31/19, you may date a thread for any date between 8/29/19 and 8.31.19. You may not date threads forward.

So as the year progresses, you will be able to date threads for any time that has already passed in the year, but you must be careful not to break your own character's timelines. The best way to track a character's timeline is to go to their profile and click the button on it labelled "Thread Log". It shows every thread the character has ever participated in. Likewise, events that would break your timelines should also be carefully monitored. So, for example, if I posted a thread for a character dated for today in the desert, it would break the timeline if I posted a thread dated for the 29th in which they ended up dying.

Excessively breaking your own timelines or other characters' timelines is frowned upon and if done consistently, Staff may intervene. Tomorrow I will be instituting changes to leader logs and pregnancies that reflect these changes, so keep an eye out! Please DM or PM a staffer if you have any questions.

A blessing from Omne is the many diverse and sentient species he got to meet with. One of his most surprisingly, and, at first, previously unthought of relationships, was the one he had with Amelia. Ever since acquiring her help in finding Ceartas, he had gotten to like her as a friend and often visited for walks and talk.

He hadn't visited her in a while, occupied with helping Ceartas care for Eir, and trying to figure out the best possible place for them to pledge their allegiance to. And now that he was visiting, he decided they do something other than the usual walk and talk. He was at the border between the Savanna and Primeval Forrest, just near the river. They could swim together, if she didn't mind, and if she didn't know how to swim, he could teach her. Otherwise, if the whole swimming experience didn't sit well with her, they could always go mountain climbing, maybe race, maybe even roughhouse--did foxes do that?

Sitting at the border, Gabriel called out for his vixen friend and waited patiently. He wondered how she and Salvus were fairing since his last visit.

The little fox had chosen to hide out near the Faraja den since her sight had been taken. She had figured out mostly how to stumble her way around that locale, and found herself to be thankful for her #efficient anatomy that kept her from needing to eat as often as other foxes. Without it, she likely would have starved with how long it took her to navigate to the kill pile and how... picky... she had become. Mice were not cutting it for her - but rabbit was good, as were bigger kills.

The tiny woman was currently laying in her shallow nest, dug out under a bush some ten yards from the Faraja den.  She had stumbled through an explanation of what had happened to her for Mitis and the children, being careful to control her voice and not betray her fear. Or the deep hurt that came from knowing she had caused someone to be banished. Not that it was entirely her fault. Shadow had threatened Amanakai and refused to show Kicheko any respect. He had stubbornly refused to see reason, no matter who spoke it, and so it wasn't truly her fault.  But it felt like it.

Autumn red ears pressed to her skull, her mind already made up. She wouldn't seek out the wolf. Ever. He had made his bed and now he must lay in it. It was a hard lesson, but sometimes that was the best way to learn. Her ears came up when she heard a call and a frown tugged at her muzzle. For a moment she was actually afraid it was the wolf who Kicheko had sent away, but then her shoulders relaxed. That sounded much more like Gabriel, who's call she knew well from the time they already spent together.

She wanted to ignore him, to feign illness or to call for someone else to go greet him, and to tell him she was ill. It would not be a lie to claim illness. Her tongue passed over the teeth that were too strange for her liking, unfamiliar, and then she rose slowly. The bush scratched at her body, adding a few more leaves and twigs to her unkempt fur. Staying neat and tidy had fallen by the wayside. It was a struggle to remain fed, let alone to groom when she could not see where things were stuck. Her paws carried her slowly, touch-tapping along one in front of the other on a tightrope track. All of her attention was focused on paws and whiskers that she hardly understood, using the latter to determine if she were about to run into something. Her ears strained forward, begging silence to reign so she could hear if something bigger than her was coming.

Every adventure from her nest was troubling, making her feel less like a predator and more like prey. Wandering nearer to that river which had contaminated her was even more concerning, and she prayed that Gabriel had not touched the water. 'Please let it end here please don't let anyone else get hurt because of me,' she felt obligated to think that, because if she had not touched the water, if she had asked Ruth what had happened, perhaps everything would be alright. She bumped into a tree and let out a small yip, turning slightly, and then everything was all out of order and she had no idea which way she was supposed to be heading. "Gabriel?!" She called, coming to a stop still within Salvus's borders. "I-I think I got turned around-...can you come find me?" How lame did that sound, weak and pitiful, mewling like a scared kit as she crouched down ever smaller at the wooshing of wings overhead. What if it was another owl? What if Gabriel wasn't Gabriel and she'd just asked someone else to come into her home and brought something horrible and terrible down onto her family?

A whimper left her, her eyes squeezed tightly shut. It wasn't like them being open would do her any good anyway.

Gabriel had still been standing idly by, waiting for anyone to come by and say hello. He had called for Amelia, but there was always a chance a different member of Salvus would arrive instead. Gabriel listened attentively for anyone out there, and heard the sounds of an animal nearing just moments before Amelia's startled voice called out to him.

His tail rose slowly, ears pricked now in alarm as a paw rose to cross over the border, but he hesitated--would he attacked without question if he crossed it? Would they not realize Amelia needed help before they did so?

No. The King's rules were all about peace, ask-first-before-fighting. And so with that, he bounded towards the source of the little vixen, #quick reflexes aiding to help him reach the distance in twice the time as usual, and came to a halt just where Amelia was.

Wait...was that...really Amelia? “I'm here, Amelia,” he stood about a foot from her, confusion written all over his face, concern all over his tone. Head lowered down to softly nudge at the right side of her neck; he preferred physical interaction, after all, “What happened? Did someone do this?” did people even have the magic do to this? Was someone trying to pull a prank here? He didn't even know yet that she was blind.

She wanted to burrow herself beneath the earth, but the paralyzing terror that gripped her kept her from so much as twitching. She heard pawsteps, heavy, large pawsteps and her heart climbed to her throat. What mistake had she made? What giant, fox eating creature was bearing down on her at such a speed and when would her death come cleanly? She whimpered again, curling her head into her side. Everything was just so off about her and she couldn't understand where she'd gone wrong, other than the water. Perhaps Actun really had a sick sense of humor or maybe she had been right to consider Rudis, but either way this was such a horrible thing to experience.

She heard Gabriel's voice then, and slowly uncurled herself. Green eyes opened, but she could not see and it was about to drive her insane. She hated not being able to see, hated not really knowing just had strange she looked with her new head. She hated the whole thing, and those blinking eyes did nothing to help her either. How great were extra eyes that only got poked by things and could not see? She leaned into the more familiar touch, squeezing her eyes shut again. "I put my paw in the river... and then... I went blind... Ruth had the same thing happen and- I don't know if this is some trick Actun is playing on us or-or if it's- Rudis has made his den here and-" words spilled from her muzzle, far more than she would usually reveal about Salvus. She had kept Rudis's presence to herself, not wanting to worry anyone else outside of Salvus, but it was all too much now. She couldn't see and that was just... such a problem.

How could she help Colbert if she couldn't see? How could she mind the children if she couldn't see (actually, that hadn't been that hard - the kids were well enough behaved that they could mind each other so long as someone was nearby to hear them)? How could she hunt or anything? She was useless and she'd not been useless since she was a kit and her brother and sister were bullying her in the den. She whispered the word under her breath, another tiny whimper. She had been doing so good, keeping quiet and acting like she wasn't bothered by her inability to see, or the nightmares that kept coming back of the snarling, snapping wolf that she hadn't been able to see. Even in her nightmares Shadow's snarls were disembodied, but they were always followed with dripping jaws wrapping around her neck. That she fully intended to keep to herself.

The occurance was even more absurb than he thought. He wasn't sure if finding out it was possibly the Gods or Rudis was better or worse than it being a mortal with powerful magic and physical flesh he could bite into.

He didn't know how to help her. Hell, he didn't know if the blindness and head switcheroo was permanent, either, but it was certainly disconcerting.

To think, he would have invited her to swim with him, possibly in the same river she had touched from. “Calm down, Ame's,” he tried to give her a calm, reassuring voice, hunkering down into a sit as he buried his muzzle into the side of her neck; surely, they were close enough for that? He might not know how to fix her ailment, but he could at least provide her some sort of comfort, “Relax, take a breath... Does anyone else know about the water being contaminated? Does the King and Queen know?” he would try to help as best he could. Make knowledge of the water's effects known to the members of Salvus, and make sure no harm came in the vixen's way.

Calm down? How was she meant to calm down? She whined again, low in her throat, and leaned into the wolf's touch when he nuzzled against her. She took a few slow breaths, finally managing to draw air deeper than just a little shallow gasp or two. She focused on Gabriel's scent, the earthy smell of a loner, and finally managed to pull herself back together. "Kicheko knows, so Miss Mitis knows. He found us when we fell into the water," the fox said slowly, focusing on each word as it left her muzzle. "I nearly got us both drowned when I fell back in...I rely on my eyes more than I thought," ears fell back against her head as she pressed the side of her muzzle against the wolf's leg.

For the moment she just needed someone to be close by. She had no idea what direction the Faraja den was in anylonger, and she was close to being hopelessly lost in her own territory. The fear that it was permanent worried her even more. But some of the anxiety began to fade away, bit by bit. At least this massive wolf didn't want to turn her into a snack, or kill her for the strangeness of her head. At least this wolf was really a friend, not just one who claimed to be such while threatening her family. Miss Mitis and her babes, Kicheko. Her eyes burned with tears that she was begging herself to not start in on, because how much could she keep quiet if she started crying? She was no secret keeper when her emotions were high - she was hardly a secret keeper to begin with.

It was comforting, to know Amelia trusted him. He sat there in silence for a few moments, bathing in her scent as she bathed in his, and he wondered with a distracted thought how long their friendship would last. How long did foxes live? Would they ever have an irreversible fallout? Would one of them get into a deadly fight they cannot get out of?

Gabriel allowed those thoughts to be in the forefront of his mind for only a moment, and then he was back to finding ways to help Amelia. It's good that they know. I'm sorry I had you valk all this vay just to greet me...I can take you back to your den, iv you'll allow me. It is at these moments when he wishes he was not a loner. Salvus' laws did not correlate with his morals and beliefs, but now he wishes they did so that he could roam the Forrest freely, to take care of Amelia. She is the closest friend he has in Omne.

The male rises from his sleep, head still lowered and slow in his movements so that she may have the time to realize what he is doing. He would try t9 follow her scent back to her den if she allowed it. Maybe my sister can stop by as vell sometime? To look at your condition? Maybe she knows something. he barely knew a thing about healing others and herbology, and what little he knew was only things Ceartas could stuff into his brain before it got boring or he forgot. Apply pressure on a wound to stop bleeding...something about chewing up leaves and putting it on cuts and bruises to stop swelling...

speech.

Amelia inhaled slowly, trying to keep herself pulled together as Gabriel finally spoke. She shook her head slowly, digging her claws into the earth below her. "No, I- I'm too close to the Faraja den, and I'm not sure if Kicheko would be pleased if I allowed you too near to Miss Mitis and the children. I know you would not hurt them but things have been difficult and tense and-" she stopped the spill of words, clamping her jaws shut and taking a deep breath.

Slow.

Easy.

"I appreciate the offer, but Miss Mitis is a very skilled healer and...there's nothing she has been able to do," her ears dipped against her head. "Of course your sister is no doubt skilled just- right now isn't a good time to have those not wishing to join us here," Amelia finally managed to get her words in order. The thought of Shadow, who she had trusted to some degree, fluttered through her mind. She rose from the ground carefully, less wobbly than before but not really much more sure of herself. She knew she could follow her own scent back to the den site easily enough, especially if she went slowly. She hated to tell him to leave, hated to sound so rude, but there was no reason to put her family in danger or more on alert than they already were.
