It's time for an update to how we handle time! Now that we are a couple days into the first season of this year, I'll explain how our flow of time will now work. We will be keeping double time, but our time will be more fluid. Essentially, from here on, you will be allowed to back date threads.

All threads from here on out will need to have a date AND time listed in the thread title. This will allow users to see exactly when a thread occurred.

Previously, if you posted a new thread, the time and date that thread was posted was the time in which that event was happening. We are altering the rules regarding timelines to allow you to backdate threads for any date in the current year. (This is Year 3.) So this year started on 8.29.19. You may date a thread from the current date backward to the first day of the year. So as today is 8/31/19, you may date a thread for any date between 8/29/19 and 8.31.19. You may not date threads forward.

So as the year progresses, you will be able to date threads for any time that has already passed in the year, but you must be careful not to break your own character's timelines. The best way to track a character's timeline is to go to their profile and click the button on it labelled "Thread Log". It shows every thread the character has ever participated in. Likewise, events that would break your timelines should also be carefully monitored. So, for example, if I posted a thread for a character dated for today in the desert, it would break the timeline if I posted a thread dated for the 29th in which they ended up dying.

Excessively breaking your own timelines or other characters' timelines is frowned upon and if done consistently, Staff may intervene. Tomorrow I will be instituting changes to leader logs and pregnancies that reflect these changes, so keep an eye out! Please DM or PM a staffer if you have any questions.

[AW] Still, I Try

#1

She wishes they had stayed here when they first joined Omne.

It was winter when she and Gabriel were transported here, and now that winter has come again and snow has fallen in some areas, it marked a year of them being here.

A year, and what has she accomplished?

The winter would not let her plant many of the herbs she wanted to plant, but it did give her time to find where the plants naturally lay, so that she could grab the seeds and replant them in her garden. But still, she was without a garden, without a true home, and without many necessary items to truly make a difference.

From her perch just outside of their den, Ceartas mulled over past experiences, and what she learned from the runestones she found. They were very difficult to find, but finding one yielded useful results. It was unfortunate, however, that she could not experiment and try to make the things she now knew of, and was also saddened to find out that she could no longer use her magic to check on the physical state of herself and her family.

But the Gods had gave her a different power once more. Would it ever stop? A rock lay in front of her, with an imperfect shape and hard edges. Using #state of matter, she turned the granite rock into hard clay.

She didn't even know what clay was, just tried to use her imagination to see what it came up with. The Gods were preparing her, giving her the tools she needed to make something great. They must expect big things from her, and she would not let them down.

Ceartas eventually took to looking for runestones once more, although this time she was far away from the den now. #Composition allowed her to look through the ground for anything of interest down below.

AAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!

He'd been SO good. SOOO good. It had been AMAZING. A FLAWLESS. EXECUTION. OF GOODNESS. Well, no, actually there were a lot of flaws in the execution but NEVERTHELESS, it had been awesome.

He'd found the cold. He'd stayed in it. Played in it. Oh, he could feel the ghost of frost in his fur already, despite it being thick. He could feel it like a hole in his heart, by the biting of the heat and the humidity. How it BIT him, ENSNARED him, CONSUMED him. He was fuming. And it wasn't helping the heat.

What kind of blasphemous dung-hole could be hot in the winter? Was this legitimately hell, had he actually died running away from the old kingdom? What about Erica? She'd gone off but she'd been with him at first, was that just an illusion or had she died too? Was she suffering too? What about Jyzara? Oh Jyzara, oh no oh no oh no no no--

Katchneil halted in the explosion of wooden rainbows to breathe. He had to just breathe. She was alright, she had to be, he swore she had to be. They'd been apart for a long time, and Katchneil didn't like it one bit, but what could he do while he was lost and alone? How could he search for someone in a land covered with the fog of the unknown?

He had to hurry up. He had to keep walking. Keep walking until he found something. Someone. Who knew. Anything.

As he briskly hustled through the winding, nonsensical path of the psychedelic tree commune, Katchneil began to notice just how the colors behaved. Or rather, how they didn't behave. Rebellious, energized, fluid, leaping from tree to tree like running from their acrimonious responsibilities and expectations. Katchneil somehow related. Perhaps everyone that had once been some form of rebel did. He... liked it. Katchneil wondered what this meant. Had the Universe guided him to take the wrong turn somewhere, into a forest of lights? Of rainbows? What was it trying to tell him, or show him? What was the deal, Universe?

Was that wolf up ahead, looking around for something foreign the deal? Wait, what? Wolf? Katchneil blinked and brought his attention back to reality. There it was. The wolf, looking around for something foreign. What was it?

Katchneil quickly remembered Flame. Poor, possibly not-so-innocent Flame had run into him while in a mood. She too had been a wolf, but different. Bright red, shaped like the enemy. Katchneil knew that not every wolf was the same. Unless they were, and Flame was a really dedicated witch. In which case, this really would be hell.

Well, no better option than to go see which was witch.

In a vaguely ornery voice that Katchneil, for whatever reason, did not have the energy to change, he said, "Hey you there, what are you doing?"

Runestones. Still ellusive, still thwarting. She had been too occupied looking for them to truly notice the creature that was approaching, which is why it was a good thing he announced himself. The announcement shifted her attention from searching to looking at him, an odd-looking leopard boy with an ebony-based pelt and a striking blue-shaded mohawk, among other things. Was her family the only people with normal looking pelts? “Looking vor runestones.” her ears perked attentively at him, eyes assessing his body and searching for any kind of reason to be wary. “They are very hard to vind.” her thick, German accent was obvious in every word.

Having already decided to take Gabriel's idea on meeting new people, Ceartas decided to allow herself the chance to be entertained by this young man. “Vould you like to keep me company as I look? Have a chat, perhaps zing stories...” a small, friendly smile is offered to him; an invitation to join her in her affairs, if only for a moment.

Whether or not he decides to help, Ceartas takes still to looking for more runestones. Only now, she looks in directions that allows her to keep him in her line of sight--she had a right to be wary, didn't she? Her tail was leveled for balance, ears still perked and eyes quite open.

In the event he did decide to stay and chat, Ceartas would start first: “It is a strange place; Omne... Vouldn't you say?”

Surprisingly, she answered him with ease, a sharp contrast to Terry's dodgy-ness. Runestones, eh? Very hard to find, apparently, whatever they were. Her German accent was plain, but Katchneil was certain he'd heard thicker accents in his lifetime. Not necessarily of her kind, but of some kind indeed.

The wolf, to Katchneil's utter shock, invited him to stay, to chat, to-- wait, sing? Did she mean sing? Huh. That was awfully friendly. This wolf seemed rather... friendly. Katchneil's suspicion began to creep at him, taunting him with the possibility that maybe it was still the same witch, molding her appearance and trying a new tactic on him, one that would draw him closer rather than push him away.

Katchneil put the thought in its own little bubble. Chased and scattered from his pack of three, and on top of that, heat-smothered, the leopard was not at his best, but he was aware that this was probably the best chance to get some actual information on this area. Everyone else (of the three others) he'd run into either hadn't known anything, or had been extremely difficult to deal with.

"Sure, why not. Although I don't think I can sing," he'd reply, tone speckled with dying agitation.

So the male did not turn tail and escape to somewhere colder. Honestly, maybe it was for the best, he didn't want to get lost again. Maybe this wolf could direct him straight to the cold, and he wouldn't have to go through the ordeal of hating every step and everything that looked at him funny. The wolf began to speak to his idle form. Omne was a strange place, he agreed. Strangely covered in deserts and other humid hot junctions of disaster. "Omne is odd, yeah. Oddly devoid of decent temperatures. I keep getting lost trying to look for some place colder," he'd admit.

"I'm Katchneil. What about you?" Still privately on guard, Katchneil shaved off the excess of anger in his voice. Yes, the blasphemous temperature degree still poked at him with its little, invisible needles, but standing still was helping (marginally), and was he really going to be rude to the only creature he'd come across that seemed to know anything about this place?

Maybe his brief interaction with the cold had grown back a smidgen of his brain cells. Maybe.
