It's time for an update to how we handle time! Now that we are a couple days into the first season of this year, I'll explain how our flow of time will now work. We will be keeping double time, but our time will be more fluid. Essentially, from here on, you will be allowed to back date threads.

All threads from here on out will need to have a date AND time listed in the thread title. This will allow users to see exactly when a thread occurred.

Previously, if you posted a new thread, the time and date that thread was posted was the time in which that event was happening. We are altering the rules regarding timelines to allow you to backdate threads for any date in the current year. (This is Year 3.) So this year started on 8.29.19. You may date a thread from the current date backward to the first day of the year. So as today is 8/31/19, you may date a thread for any date between 8/29/19 and 8.31.19. You may not date threads forward.

So as the year progresses, you will be able to date threads for any time that has already passed in the year, but you must be careful not to break your own character's timelines. The best way to track a character's timeline is to go to their profile and click the button on it labelled "Thread Log". It shows every thread the character has ever participated in. Likewise, events that would break your timelines should also be carefully monitored. So, for example, if I posted a thread for a character dated for today in the desert, it would break the timeline if I posted a thread dated for the 29th in which they ended up dying.

Excessively breaking your own timelines or other characters' timelines is frowned upon and if done consistently, Staff may intervene. Tomorrow I will be instituting changes to leader logs and pregnancies that reflect these changes, so keep an eye out! Please DM or PM a staffer if you have any questions.

The hyena lingered around the northern border, ensuring they were cleanly marked. He had to ensure Salvus' borders were taken care of, that no innocent outsider may find themselves stumbling onto the protected land. Things had been quiet lately. It made him feel better. Though, at the back of his mind, the striped hyena tended to worry this peace may be cut short, real soon. He was rather surprised Shadow had yet to show himself. Perhaps the wolf had decided it better for everyone, or at least himself, to keep away. Kicheko hated unneeded violence. But if he had to, he would tell the wolf to back off in more physical ways if it ever came to that.

When Kicheko was done marking the borders, he pulled himself deeper into the forest. Despite the sun's glow overhead, the forest remained quite dimly lit thanks to the shelter of the trees' tops. It was quite soothing to the hyena. Made him feel quite sheltered and secure. He was glad he could provide this home for his family and friends. They deserved it. Anyone deserved the Primeval Forest so long they could follow Salvus' rules.

Karcsi moved through the forest that was home slowly, taking in scents and sounds. His icy eyes were bored, paws itching to do something aside from walk and learn and mark borders. He wanted to roam, wanted to see the rest of what Omne was and had to offer. One thing Karcsi enjoyed was practicing his magic, so as he moved through the forest, he made #duplicate activate. Two of himself moved lazily along, not stalking but rather wandering slowly. Seeking and searching the same way he had before.

Ears perked slightly upon hearing other steps, and his duplicate faded from beside him. The feline passed his tongue over his muzzle, blinking slowly and lifting his head from the bush he had been pawing through in hopes of finding a runestone that would lead him to Cadis. His tongue still poked between his teeth when he saw Kicheko, and he tilted his head slightly in greeting of his king. "You don't happen to know how to reach Cadis's temple, do you?" He asked after a moment of thought. It was silly to ask unprompted, but he was rapidly growing tired of all of his searching turning up a whole lot of nothing.

Scavenge Roll

Karcsi rolled for scavenge on Discord. Karcsi rolled a 9. Karcsi's scavenge for a green runestone was unsucessful.

Kicheko, as he sat upon the forest floor, watched his surroundings in a silence, tinted by an unspoken solace. Peace and quiet. It was a shame he failed to appreciate such more in his youth. He had changed so much over the years. Kicheko felt like an entirely new scrap of hyena. Part of him sort of missed when he was so blissfully stupid and careless. Oh, but the male supposed, really, that if he had remained the same, he would have died a long time ago. Would he still have ended up in Omne then? Perhaps. But certainly without those who mattered to him. A nobody. Though... if he died at that time, would he have retained his blissful naivety? He would hope so. At least he could be a nobody who didn't know any better.

A voice slowly found its way to Kicheko's attention.

He shifted until he faced Karcsi, dark eyes observing the feline curiously. He recognized him as Damia's own, specifically the one that got into a quarrel with Shadow, but he had seen the young male so seldom, the name had escaped him. But the male had come to Kicheko with an interesting question. Cadis' temple. Yeah... Kicheko knew the basis of finding the God. Though, Kicheko himself had been having issues. Then again, he had not tried in some time. He no longer desperately needed the divine creator. Rudis was no longer detectable, and issues had lightened up for the time being. Though, it would still be nice to ask for whatever Cadis could offer him. Any sort of wisdom. Cadis must know more than Kicheko and his peers could begin to comprehend. "I know the requirements. But past that, I'm lost. I don't hear of many that have actually found the Gods and their temples. You're not the only one to ask me about it, though." He pulled himself upon his tan feet with a polite smile at the young feline.

"To start, you'll need a temple herb. Eura didn't describe them to us, but she says that more specific knowledge on them is acquired by runestones. I don't know how to use the herbs, but you need them to access the temple at all. Cadis, specifically, is beneath the sea. So, the magical herb will have to relate to that somehow." His ringed forepaw brushed along the grasses below softly, grazing the tips. "Have you ever messed with runestones? They're usually found anywhere on the ground."

The young male exhaled slowly, ears twitching slightly. The requirements were more than he knew, at least, and the youth carefully folded himself to sit before Kicheko, an attentive pupil to learn what his king knew. He would need a temple herb from the runestones, and he would need to be beneath the sea. "Runestones, yes. I've found a few, but my luck with them is...poor," his ears folded back, tailtip twitching in annoyance. The stupid things were always hiding and he had a hard time ever locating more than one in any single adventure.

"Knowing I need an herb is better than nothing... I wonder how he expects us to travel into water... I can only swim so far," and even then Karcsi preferred to not spend too much time in the water. Especially after seeing a tiger-headed fox bumbling about, and the many-legged deer-child. No, it was just better to stay clear of swimming if he could avoid it. Especially when gods were involved. "I've found a few before... I know how to season things now... did you know you can put thyme on meats?" His head tilted to one side, blinking innocently at Kicheko. There was really nothing heinous going on behind the boy's pale eyes, but the young man preferred to keep up an act of innocence at all times. It made it easier to look blameless when he finally did something stupid.

Well, so long as whoever he was screwing with wasn't a god.

So the young male was familiar with runestones. The hyena smiled lightly, quite glad for that. He nodded slowly upon the feline's comments regarding Cadis' temple entrance, and the King found himself sighing. It was a question worth asking, how they could travel into it. The herb must have something to do with it. Perhaps it helped them swim fast. He would only find out upon testing it. The challenge was finding the right herb. "I'm not a fast swimmer, either. Really, I don't swim much. I can walk on water, though." It had been some time since he practiced his magic. It was funny, every time he told himself he'd kick it up, it would last for just a little while before he forgot again. Oh, take him out of this habit!

He tilted his head slightly as the feline shared something about seasoning food. Thyme? Well... it could be eaten for medical purposes. Though Kicheko wasn't certain of the necessity of sprinkling it on meats. Maybe perhaps if someone refused to eat thyme on it's own. Would that halt the effects? "I've heard of cooking, but not seasoning. To be honest, me and cooked food don't get along." Moreso, food messed with by others and Kicheko didn't get along. It made his stomach knot, just thinking about having his food spiked. But even then, the smell and sight of cooked food along made him lose his appetite instantly. "I'm sorry for this, but can you tell me your name again?" Kicheko could get by not knowing the young man's name for so long. It was a necessity to know who inhabited Salvus, especially on a personal level. That was important to him.

Karcsi's ears perked up, attentive. Kicheko could walk on water? "I can only make a copy of myself," he had been working on his magic, sure, but he wasn't all that good at it yet. He could certainly make his clone stick around for fifteen minutes now, though, which was nice. "I've never cooked before, but that was something the runestone gave me," Karcsi considered the king and then, when he asked his name, gave a small laugh.

"Karcsi Atse. I'm Damia's son. My sister is Cressida," no mention of the adopted brother, who Karcsi cared so little about. It crossed his mind that he hadn't seen or heard from the pup in awhile, and after a moment of thought he considered Kicheko again. "We also have a brother our mother adopted, Shadow. I apologize for his behavior, he's... a little slow," the young male lowered his head, surveying Kicheko's paws as he put on his most abashed face. He was unaware of the extent to which Shadow had acted out. Had he known, he might have laughed loudly and gladly at the wolf's plight. Instead, Karcsi was much too absorbed in his own little quest to discover information on the gods to care much about his brother.

A copy of himself. His ears twitched, pricking curiously as he imagined a duplicate of the mysterious boy right next to the real thing. Certainly a cause for confusion. A great distraction, really, good for evasion. He nodded slowly as it was revealed that runestones were responsible for the feline's shared information. Good to know. Though, it made the hyena wonder if the russet male would ever consider testing his newfound knowledge.

Ah, Karcsi! A nod of acknowledgement bobbed his striped head up and down with a polite smile. There it was. Cressida was a name unfamiliar to him, but it would be helpful for the future. The Atse family seemed oh so reserved and hidden. May it have to do with Damia's reclusive demeanor as of late? Or did Karcsi and Cressida independently choose to be reserved and to themselves? As Karcsi went on to mention Shadow, the hyena found himself licking his lips uncomfortably. Word must not have gotten to the family. How could it, though? That should have been Kicheko's responsibility to pass it on personally. But he hadn't, had he? "It's not your fault." He assured the young male as he shuffled in place to adjust himself. "There's something I need to tell you, and something you need to let your family know. I wish we crossed paths sooner, but better late than never. I made Shadow leave the forest after he nearly attacked Amelia, the little fox you saw at the meeting." He paused a moment to let the news sink in, brows raising with an unspoken concern, mostly for how Karcsi may react.

"Leading up to that, he never let up his aggression. Threats, insults, disobedience. It was like he spent all his waking energy looking for a way to act out. All I asked was for him to show more tolerance and less hostility. I offered to teach him what I thought would benefit him, I wanted to show him that not everyone was as bad as he thought they were. But he never let me. When I told him to leave, he threatened my family before grovelling to Amelia." While Shadow had yet to act upon said threats, should the wolf still wish to honor them through his drastically fluctuating moodswings, Kicheko did his best to keep an eye out. "He's free to come back if I can trust him not to hurt our own. Nothing I tried worked. Any time he showed any signs of improving, he swung back in a heartbeat to lashing out."

He felt for the wolf. He really did. Innocents being taken into slavery wasn't something to be justified. But Salvus was a place of acceptance, no matter what you look like, what you are, where you came from. What mattered was who you were in the present and who you strived to be in the future. It frustrated the hyena that he couldn't repair the hate in the young wolf. "Next time you see your mother and sister, you should let them know that. I worry the weight it'll carry on Damia, though. Is she okay at all? Last time I saw her, it felt like she wasn't taking very good care of herself."

Karcsi nodded slightly. "I just... feel responsible... Cressida and I spent our first year with so minimal supervision... we could come and go as we pleased, and even when we got into trouble it was never severe..." Karcsi's tail twitched at the tip. He was putting on a show now, playing the part of a heartbroken sibling as it all came out that Shadow had been banished. "I should have taken more time to show him the ropes, how Cressida and I stayed out of trouble... Cadis warned me to stop being so selfish, but when that's what you grow up knowing it's hard to change," he couldn't force himself to cry, but Karcsi hung his head between his paws. "Mother has not been alright since her-..." what the hell did he call that tiger? Mate? Consort? Lover? Plaything? "her new children and their father died in a fire. Cressida and I knew little of them - their father disliked us, so we tried not to upset him... we were afraid of Mother leaving us again," he peeked up, light eyes on Kicheko.

"You're a good father; your children never have to worry about you or Queen Mitis disappearing on them... trying to come back into their lives when they're yearlings and act as though you know best," ears dipped against his head. For a moment the façade had let up. Some of the anger and hurt had bubbled to the surface and let some truth slip rather than some half truths, morphed carefully so he could really pull at the hyena's heartstrings. "Mother will be heartbroken, surely, but we all knew that Shadow was trouble... Mother had no choice but to enslave him, to make sure he wouldn't end up dead... or at least someone would know," that was what Karcsi had reasoned from Shadow telling him that he was unwilling, and that Damia placed a mark on his face. "My apologies... I have not spent time with Mother or my sweet sister in sometime now... not since Cress and I came across our father... I- I left the borders to hunt, because I didn't want to get rusty, and Nike and Cress both followed me... we came across a black leopard named Corrin who said he was our father... that he and Mother both died when we were very young. I think he was going to take Cress and I away from here, and Nike too. But... we got away from him and... I've tried to stay safely within the realm since. I don't want to go anywhere unwillingly again," he frowned.

Karcsi had forgotten how much he craved another to speak too. He had always had Cressida, but without her it was like every thought and every feeling had to find another outlet, to info dump onto the first person willing to spare him some time. It would just be temporary, of course. Kicheko would move on, being King, and Karcsi would again be alone. But for the moment he could pretend his king truly cared, that he was a nice creature. Maybe that was best. To think of everyone as only passing through, that Karcsi didn't have to form a deep or lasting bond because they would just leave him anyway. Yeah. That worked.
