8.29.19 - 10.13.19

It's time for an update to how we handle time! Now that we are a couple days into the first season of this year, I'll explain how our flow of time will now work. We will be keeping double time, but our time will be more fluid. Essentially, from here on, you will be allowed to back date threads.

All threads from here on out will need to have a date AND time listed in the thread title. This will allow users to see exactly when a thread occurred.

Previously, if you posted a new thread, the time and date that thread was posted was the time in which that event was happening. We are altering the rules regarding timelines to allow you to backdate threads for any date in the current year. (This is Year 3.) So this year started on 8.29.19. You may date a thread from the current date backward to the first day of the year. So as today is 8/31/19, you may date a thread for any date between 8/29/19 and 8.31.19. You may not date threads forward.

So as the year progresses, you will be able to date threads for any time that has already passed in the year, but you must be careful not to break your own character's timelines. The best way to track a character's timeline is to go to their profile and click the button on it labelled "Thread Log". It shows every thread the character has ever participated in. Likewise, events that would break your timelines should also be carefully monitored. So, for example, if I posted a thread for a character dated for today in the desert, it would break the timeline if I posted a thread dated for the 29th in which they ended up dying.

Excessively breaking your own timelines or other characters' timelines is frowned upon and if done consistently, Staff may intervene. Tomorrow I will be instituting changes to leader logs and pregnancies that reflect these changes, so keep an eye out! Please DM or PM a staffer if you have any questions.

Trigger warning for self harm and depression.

Shadow hadn't eaten for a couple of days now. He was getting thin. He had been eating less and less often after his ejection from Salvus. Angry at himself for his actions he wandered around the grotto. A rabbit walked by ran out of his way and he had no desire to chase it down and eat it despite being starving. Despair was the the primary emotion he had felt since he had been ejected from Salvus.

There were a few days here and there where he felt good and normal but was slow decline until he hit where he was today. His mind wandered back to his actions from the day that he got kicked out. It chaffed at him bad. It had burned a hole in his soul. Guilt joined his despair as he replayed that day once more as he walked back towards the boarders of Salvus.

I blew it. I lost the only friend I had and my family. For what? Hate? Anger? The tigers slavers aren't here. I have yet to come across a single tiger or coyote. The water was what changed her. She was still the same Amelia that wanted to help me. The feathered one was right. He did want to help me . He said I would one day hurt someone who was trying to help me and I almost did. She was my friend. I still don't feel like I have a right to get a second chance. Hate has rotted me out. I just want to talk to someone who is sentient. I can't hide from the world forever.

The black wolf paused and looked around. The grotto reminded him of his adopted family. Even more guilt crept in as his eyes traced down the path that lead towards Salvus. He remembered taking this road with Damia, Karci and Cress when they were on their journey to join Saluvs. Golden eyes darted around as he mulled over howling and attracting attention to himself. He had been deep in the grotto since his ejection. He was familiar with it from his time with Damia there and it brought him some comfort.

On an impulse the gaunt wolf reared his head back and let out a howl. Despair slowly was replaced with fear. I hope that I am not making a mistake. I really need someone to help me. I can't live like this much longer. I don't want to turn into what I hate. I started down that road and it scared me and it cost me the few things I truly cared about.

OC Note: Shadow is about a hour from the boarders of Salvus in the grotto.

Star moved her slowly. Not much got her to move quickly anymore. It just wasn’t worth it. Since seeing Kickeko, she hadn’t wandered much. He came to these lands for a new beginning. She was brought here for more loneliness. Why couldn’t thing ever go her way? She always seemed to be the odd one out. Always the second choice. She felt so old yet she wasn’t. Her mind just seemed to work slower. Each day passed as the day before. Even hunting didn’t get get her spirits up anymore.

Her ears flicked when she heard a sounds of a howl that were semi close to her and she had to force herself to move in that direction. Was the conversation going to be worth it?

Her white fur that was once always kept perfect and pristine looked like it had seen better days. Brown dirt coated the backs of her legs and stomach but she just didn’t care. Her bi-colored eyes lost a lot of their luster they had once has. A smile that was so easy to come by now did morn grace her face.

“Sh.. don’t be so loud. What troubles you?” She asked in a soft voice. Barley above a whisper once she saw a black wolf. One she hoped was the cause for the howl.

She was only around the land because she found a passing scent of  Kickeko but she couldn’t bring herself to face him. Nor follow where he was or even to call out to him. She was ashamed to let her old friend know how far she truly had sank into her own mind. This wolf looked sad to her as well. Maybe they could help each other.

Shadow waited. Inside he hoped that his former king would show up and be willing give him a second chance. Better yet his mother. A voice hit his ears asking if he was ok and the unmistakable scent of a female tiger wafted throught the air. Anger welled up inside him.

His instincts took over and his hackles went up and a mencing growl escaped his maw. 'They finally came to take me back. I will not go back willingly.' One of the things Kicheko told him about not hurting strangers that could help him. His hackles dropped and he though about what to say to his new acquaintance. "I'm not ok. I was thrown out of a realm that I was a part of.  Before that I was taken captive by tigers and they did horrible things to me. I thought you were one of them. Forgive me for lashing out. " The broken wolf waited for a response with his head hung low. He hoped that she wouldn't want to hurt him after his display.

Star looked at the wolf as he suddenly growled at her. Her brow furrowed in confusion. Did he think her a threat? He was thin, almost like she would be if she didn’t force herself to hunt every once in awhile.

As he spoke her ears pinned against her head. He was kicked out of a realm? That was never easy. And before that he was taken by tigers? This poor wolf! Of course he life wasn’t apples and Daisy’s but at least she wasn’t ever hurt by anyone. As he apologised she nodded in understand. “It is alright dear. Some scars are not able to be seen. I apologise for you about what some of my kin has done.” She watched his hang his head and her heart lurched in her chest. He seemed more broken than her.

She looked over him and saw his gaunt ribs and nodded. She would hunt for him since he looked like he hadn’t eaten in awhile. “My dear, come with me I will hunt for you. Then come back to my den and sleep on a few furs I have. No one should be kicked out of a realm nor hurt by others. Let me help you.” She said softly. She didn’t want to startle him but she wanted to help him. She hoped maybe she could at least make him not fear her.

He nodded in agreement about her comment regarding his scars and his mind drifted deep into thought as he stared off into space. 'These run deep. I am the very monster I don't want to be. I can't trust her. She's a tiger. That stench is horrible. Yet she doesn't smell like those evil slavers. I hate being alone. What do I have left to lose? My family is gone and so is my realm. I could use a good meal. If she sells me out I will fight her to her death. No way I will go back to being a slave.' He mulled over his options and his glowing eyes wandered around the ground.

'I could use a meal. But there is no way I will go back to her den. I will not sleep anywhere near this filthy creature.' After a relatively long pause he sighed and decided he would take the free meal. "I'll take the free meal. But I will not go back to your den. I cannot trust you. Your a tiger. How do I know that you won't kill me in my sleep? Trust needs to be earned. My name is Shadow. Who are you?" His voice was dead and hollow. He didn't have much fight in him and did not feel like fighting her. Part of him actually wanted to give this creature the benefit of the doubt.

Star waited patiently for his to respond. She didn't know where his thoughts went but she could guess that old scars were being brought to the forefront. God knew she had her own. Enough that she had trouble sleeping. She just didn't want to. Her ears flicked as she heard him speak and nodded her head. She could hunt for her, just as well as she could try to gain his trust. There wasn't much she could do other than to wait for him to trust her. Then again she didn't even trust herself. But the male before her was so thin she wasn't sure how much time she had left if she just went away. A hunt she could do.

She nodded her head. "I will be back. As for sleeping that is fine. But please allow me to give you a pelt. I have a few extras that I don't need." That wasn't true. She just had her small one but he looked like he needed it more than her. And she was fine with that. She could just go get another one.

She watched him for a minute before she nodded and turned on her heel. She turned her back on his as she moved towards the underbrush. She flicked her ears trying to get the position of a rabbit. Since she came here it felt like she had cotton in her ears. It was most definitely not her favorite thing but she heard one and careful stalked it. Before it had a chance to run she swiftly killed it. Once done she walked back to the wolf.

She purposefully scuffed the ground with her paws making noise so the wolf didn't spook. She moved closer keeping her eyes on him before dropped the rabbit about 2 feet from him before she backed up and sat down. "Eat" She whispered hoping his stomach wouldn't disagree with him.

Shadow was taken back when she didn't tell him her name. He nodded his head in agreement. Mistakenly he nodded in agreement when she offered him the pelt. 'She must be hiding something? But why does she want to help me? Tigers hate wolves. I should not have nodded when she offered me the pelt. It will have tiger stench all over it' His mind was full confusion as she walked away and he thought more about what transpired. His eyes wandered around the Grotto and his mind drifted back to his family. 'I really do regret my actions. I miss them and its all my fault they are gone. I will never be allowed back there.' With a heavy sigh he laid down and waited for the tiger to come back. 'I doubt she will actually come back. why would she ever want to help me? I am a monster.'

After a while he heard something dragging its paws. His ears perked up and he saw his new friend come back with a meal and drop it in front of him. A startled look crossed his face as he started at his meal then back at her. "Why would you help me? I am a monster. My heart is as black as my fur is. I attacked my friend because she was cursed and had a tiger head. Someone who I actually cared deeply about. Its why I was cast out. I have violent tendencies towards your kind. And yet you help me anyways." The confused creature paused for a moment as he decided what to say next. "You never did tell me your name...You tell me that and I will tell you everything about how I became the horrible creature I am today." The starving wolf began devouring his meal. At this point he was sure she wasn't a slaver. When she came back she didn't carry their scent and that was good enough for him.

As she sat she listened to him speak.  His question of why she was helping him threw her. She knew not everyone went out of their way to help another but that just wasn't who she was. She didn't think the concept was all that foreign but she guessed it was. Helping is what she did best. Even if no one was ever there to help her. Her ears flicked back when he said he attacked a friend, before she relaxed. Perhaps he was evil? Evil did have many faces but then again she couldn't blame him. Torture did weird things to another's mind. She decided to answer his first couple questions last. Her name was first up as now she looked like an idiot for not hearing him the first time. Had she no fur her blush would be evident. Her embarrassment showed through in how she dropped her head and looked at him with regret. "Oh, my apologizes. My name is Star."

Then she let her mind filter through her own thoughts before she could come up with something that might help him before he told his story.

"I help because I can. There was once a time when i could have helped another and I stood by and didn't, I was selfish one time in my life and it did nothing but bring sadness into my life. Helping brings me happiness so why wouldn't i?" She said in a soft tone before she thought for a moment on him attacking his friend. She was pulled into her own memories of a lion that did nothing but try to befriend her and she followed her queen and hurt her friend. She was also told to kill someone just because of who he was. Trauma as to what she could only imagine this wolf had could be similar. After all empathy was a strong emotion. "Hush, we all do things in terror. A monster is not made in any color nor species. A monster is made in their actions. You say you attacked your friend because she wore a tigers face? Why? Because you did not recognize her? Or because it brought you back to a time where you were so frighten it was either be killed or survive." Pausing to take a breathe she continued. "Violent tendencies can be over come. With help. Seeing with your own eyes that not everyone is bad. Your worth is not just measured in how you think but also your actions. Have you seen your friend since then? Perhaps to talk and explain what was going through your head?" She said eyeing him with an eyebrow quirked.

"Trauma as you seem to have is not something that is beaten over night. It is something that is constantly worked on. An urge that has to be repressed, most likely for the rest of your life because in the back of your mind you'll always have that fear but with time it will get better. You can change, evolve, become someone you truly want to be. You didn't attack me, which leads me to believe that you're smart enough to know when you're in danger and when you are not." She said ending on a deep breathe but let a smile come to her face as she looked over the black wolf.
